The lynching of Michael Donald in Mobile, Alabama, 1981. Two and a half years after the FBI took the case, Henry Hays and James Knowles were arrested. Bennie Hays was also indicted in Donald's murder but died before his trial began. Hays was convicted and executed in Alabama's electric chair, June 6, 1997. Hays was Alabama's first execution for a white-on-black crime since 1913, and also the only KKK member to be executed for the murder of an African-American during the 20th century.
