To create a garden design and combine plants like a professional, use contrast. In the garden, we use contrast to create harmony, flow and excitement in our plantings. When combining plants, you can contrast the plant colors, like dark and light (this is an obvious one). Some not so obvious ways to use contrast in plant combinations is contrast of texture, leaf size and plant form. Limiting the amount of contrast is also another important concept to create flow in your design.
