A member of The Impressions, (1965 No.7 single 'Lilies Of The Field') and solo, (1972 US No.4 single 'Freddie's Dead). On August 13, 1990, Mayfield was paralyzed from the neck down after stage lighting equipment fell on him at an outdoor concert in Brooklyn, NY. Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.
