Miguel Torga (1907-1955), having experienced the sufferings of emigration and rural life, contacted with the misery and death, became the poet of rural life, of ancestral, telluric forces, which animate the human instinct in its dramatic struggle against the laws that imprison. That revolt is the mission of the poet. His work, full of Biblical symbolism, is rather immersed in a divine sense that transfigures nature and dignifies man in his defiance or contempt considering the divine.
