LJ Smith was a young-adult author I read a lot in middle school. She has several series, all of which I recommend. Recently they've started re-releasing many of her books with updated covers to buy in on her success due to the CW shows based on her books (Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle). I specifically recommend the Night World and Dark World series for teens and/or supernatural fantasy fans.
