Fanny Mills (1860-1892). Fanny was the daughter of English immigrants and suffered from Milroy disease, a condition which restricts development of the lymph vessels in the legs. Even though she was a petite woman, she had to wear size 30 shoes. Fanny's manager offered a small fortune to any man willing to marry her, and she received many proposals. She married a man named William Brown and died in 1892 after a short illness.

Oscar lives in a nursing home and has the uncanny ability to sense when a resident is about to die. When a patient is near death, Oscar nearly always appears and hops on the bed. The staff have come to recognise and respect Oscar's instincts, and send for the relatives of any patient he has chosen to curl up beside. But they have no explanation for it.
