Staten Island ship graveyard~~this is not so much awesome as stupid.  I don't understand why they would just leave this as it is.  Wouldn't it have some use if they towed the wrecks out to sea for a reef & could use the docks again?

Dr. Olivia Hooker became the first African American woman to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945. To honor this trailblazer on her 100th birthday, the Coast Guard has named a building on Staten Island in her honor! At the ceremony this past Thursday, Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Paul Zukunft unveiled a plaque, stating: “Dr. Olivia Hooker …is an inspiration and a hero to every member of the Coast Guard and our nation.”

The legend of “Cropsey” – the escaped mental patient who lived in the abandoned tunnels of the Willowbrook mental hospital in Staten Island, NY, and came at night to snatch children off the streets. “Cropsey” remained just that, an urban legend, until the summer of 1987 when a 13-year-old girl with down syndrome disappeared from her neighborhood. Five weeks later, she was found buried in a shallow grave on the grounds of Willowbrook.
