Minhas Micro Brewery | Seasonal Lazy Mutt OKTOBERFEST - Malt is the star in a good Oktoberfest, and we let it shine in this distinctively German style lager.
Oktoberfest in Germany
Left Hand 'Märzen' is made with Munich and Vienna malts. This is one of the best American brewed #Oktoberfest beers in my opinion.
Avery Brewing Comapny The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest Lager. 9.3% ABV; 24 IBUs. Malt, butterscotch, and a little booziness on the nose. Mad malts on the tongue with some surprisingly spicy hops. Easily one of my top ten favorite beers of all time.
New Glarus Staghorn (Marzen) / Oktoberfest is 6.25 ABV and pours translucent golden orange. The nose is bready and fruity apple which leads into the taste, bready malts, green apple, finishing with a quick bitter bite. The overall mouthfeel is light and crisp but sacrifices nothing for character. It's a solid to very good example of the style and while I was glad to be able to try it I won't be pining for it again. That said, downing a sixer + of these during an Oktoberfest would be spot on.
Been a while since I posted a flight! I loved the copper color on the Oktoberfest as well as the subtle sharp peat on the Barrier but my favorite was the Raja with crazy pineapple notes and sweet malt supporting a mild bite. Spaten Oktoberfest is a solid representation of a Marzen/Oktoberfest. I had this on tap and am reviewing only from memory. I was not blow away but the Oktoberfest is solid and drinkable with nice bready malts, herbal notes and a little of that pleasant skunk. This is perfectly refreshing and would make a nice session beer. I would have again but not before I tried something new.
Oktoberfest Revolution from @RevBrewChicago - Clean, sweet toasted caramel corn reaches the nose with accents of copper kettles. Freshly baked honey wheat bed stirs with noble hops in the secondary. Sweet, balanced malt cords massage the tongue, with caramel-coated bran and toasted honey oats putting on a clinic for American craft brewers of the style. One of my favorite Oktoberfest seasonals, and I'm giddier than that dude with the tuba that it comes in 6-packs this year. #properglassware
