During the 1st half of the 17th century of the Baroque Period men and women shoes were much of the same style and cut. Later, women began taking interest in footwear and began to wear fashionable shoes. Their shoes were similar to the image shown above. They included shoes made of silk, satin, and velvet trimmed with lace which fell in a deep flounce over the foot. Many of the shoes were decorated with ribbon and looped leather.
