Superb jewels presented to Princess Elizabeth on the occasion of her marriage ot Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten on 20 November 1947. The top photograph shows a regal necklace of diamonds and rubies and a pair of earrings of baguette cut diamonds from King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and a diamond tiara, one of nine pieces of jewellery given by Queen Mary. The term Vasa refers to the nine almost art deco-like diamond motifs used in this tiara and relates to the Vasa family symbol. The family ruled Sweden way before the current Bernadotte Family, the last Vasa monarch was Queen Christina who chose to go into exile in 1654.
