Salisbury Cathedral Cloisters aren't just a tranquil covered walkway round a garden - they are the largest cloisters in Britain and were built around 1280, around the time of King Edward 1
Great Britain is the official name given to the two kingdoms of England and Scotland, and the principality of Wales. The United Kingdom (UK) includes these areas as well as Northern Ireland. Britain refers to only England and Wales, though some will shorten Great Britain with this term.
Salisbury Cathedral is considered one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258. Legend has it that the Bishop of Old Sarum shot an arrow in the direction he would build the cathedral; the arrow hit a deer and the deer finally died in the place where Salisbury Cathedral is now.Salisbury is one of only three English cathedrals to lack a ring of bells, the others being Norwich Cathedral and Ely.
I'm not particulary religious but I did find Salisbury Cathedral very peaceful and wonderful, particularly the cloisters. Plus they have an original copy of the Magna Carta on display.
