John Alcott Barry Lyndon, Cinematography. For Barry Lyndon, director Stanley Kubrick wanted to make the film look as authentic as possible. He worked with DP John Alcott to use only natural light wherever possible. Film was not very sensitive in those days so great skill had to be used to capture these beautiful candle-lit shots.

"The writing gets done away from the keyboard and away from the studio in my head in solitude. And then I come in and hopefully have something then I wrestle with sounds and picture all day long. But the ideas usually come from a more obscure place like a conversation with a director a still somebody shows you or whatever." - Hans Zimmer

In The Social Network, a phone conversation is filmed using conventions from normal dialogue, while also having the characters face away from each other when in disagreement and vice versa. The characters also move around their surroundings constantly, leaving the conversation still visually interesting despite the long conversation two characters are having. The phone conversation allows even more possibilities than normally seen in a simple shot/reverse shot conversation.
