Prior to his election as Sheriff of Apache County, Arizona in 1886, Owens worked on ranches in Oklahoma and New Mexico. Supported by the Stockgrower's Association, Owens later became Sheriff of one of Arizona's largest counties. Seen here with his unique gun belt and holster and Springfield sporter, Owens was using a Winchester on Sunday, September 4, 1887 when he shot it out with the Blevins brothers in Holbrook. In the 1890s, CP Owens served as a Deputy US Marshal and Deputy Sheriff
