Portuguese Folk Costume: Noivas, Mordomas, & Morgadas
The Portuguese costumes of Noivas, Mordomas, and Morgadas share essentially the same cut and construction, including a heavily beaded black velvet apron. Noivas are brides, Mordomas are young girls chosen to assist in church ceremonies, and Morgadas/Meia-Senhoras are rich ladies (or those who married into a richer family but are still not at the top of the social ladder). Antique photographs of financially well-off women are also included.
