Cozy little Mexican restaurant in a quiet corner in the Mile-End. One of the few places in Montreal where you can get real Mexican food, and feel like you're in Mexico. It serves a great variety of “cazuelitas,” savoury dishes in little terracotta pans. All the colorful and flavorful recipes have been passed down from generation to generation in the chef’s family.
Jack's Wife Freda is definitely a trendy brunch spot, and one that's undoubtedly Instagram-worthy. You might even get a glimpse of one of your favorite fashion bloggers here, too. The latest offering from Edible Beats, Vital Root is farm-to-table vegetarian cuisine served in a fast casual setting right in the heart of Highlands. If you've been to Root Down, picture a similar meal served quick enough that you're parking meter won't expire and with a good chunk knocked off the price tag. The cocktails are pre-made and ordered at the counter, but don't worry- they're not skimping you on any booze.
Ray's is a small chain of upscale seafood restaurants. When I was in town for a trade show, I went to Ray's in the City and enjoyed it thoroughly (like, scraping off the leftovers from my family's plates, that's how much). In the summer, there's a special type of salmon that's local to the region and the chef prepares in a special recipe. Get it if they have it, it's worth it.
