Maverick designer Florence Knoll has been called the "First Lady" of design. Among the greatest treasures from the Knoll archives are these wonderful photographs of the young Florence and Hans Knoll. We think you can see the energy and vision which attracted architects like Eero Saarinen and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe to Knoll during its early years (Knoll celebrated 75 years in 2013).
In 1943 Florence convinced Hans to let her work for the Knoll furniture company. It was her plan to work with architects in expanding the business into interior design. She succeeded, and he was impressed.
