By David Stanley Catumbela River is a river in western Huambo and Benguela province. It flows into the Atlantic Ocean soon to the south of Lobito, Katumbelos on campus. The main tributaries are: Kuiv (on the right), Kubala (on the left).
In 1905 a steel bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel was built over the Catumbela River between Lobito and Benguela, Angola. In 2009 a modern bridge opened alongside but the old bridge remains in service.
The Reducto de Sao Pedro overlooks the Catumbela River crossing between Lobito and Benguela, Angola. The plaque over the entrance declares that the fort was a result of "os continuos insultos feitos aos brancos pelos indigenas deste districto".
