What are the symptoms of Runner's Knee? Pain that occurs above, around or behind the knee cap, but if it's due to iliotibial band syndrome, the pain will be on the outside of the knee. The pain may be dull and aching, and sometimes is sharp, but it may also include swelling, popping, or grinding. Symptoms may be aggravated by running (obviously!), walking, stairs, prolonged sitting with the knee bent, squatting, kneeling, cycling, or jumping.
