Anna Karenina - Not your average lush historical drama. Very stylized, and at times quirky. Think more like Tolstoy meets Baz Lurhmann. Vronsky and the husband are more likable than I remember from the novel.

Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy

Although Russian critics dismissed the novel on its publication as a "trifling romance of high life", Fyodor Dostoevsky declared it to be "flawless as a work of art". His opinion was shared by Vladimir Nabokov, who especially admired "the flawless magic of Tolstoy's style", and by William Faulkner, who described the novel as "the best ever written".

Anna Karenina by Tolstoy is a beautiful read. It's Russian, therefore slow, dreadfully so at points. But the end is amazing, it's vivid, fast-paced, and heartbreaking. Absolutely worth reading. The recent movie was great as well, the costumes were impeccable.
