Boats and Buoyancy: Sink or Float? What's the Difference?

Displacement activities for physics or physical science. I used to use specialized overflow containers, but then worked on building our own. Kids can assemble them, they're super easy and cheap and when you're finished they can be disassembled and stored away in much less space than the aluminum kind. This activity shows kids concretely how an object of a given weight can displace different amounts of water based on its shape. #airpressure, #scienceexperiment

Genetics: DNA Replication and Structure Activity—A Hands-on Model

Build your own DNA. Kids will see how the base pairs combine and it also models replication. By twisting it you can show the famous double helix structure of the molecule. Helpful for middle school, this would also work for introductory biology. If you're looking for ideas for your 6th, 7th, or 8th grade unit on genetics, this might be a good fit. #EngagingScienceLabs, #geneticsactivities, #mendelian, #middleschoolscience, #tpt

Mendelian Genetics and Heredity: Raising & Crossing Generations of Fast Plants®

I love this activity for collecting data on genetic crosses. The first one is pretty simple, you just categorize the seedlings as they sprout. The second lab is more complex as you have to cross pollinate two different plants and raise their progeny. This is Mendel's classic experiment. Good for introductory biology or middle school science if you're doing a genetics unit. #EngagingScienceLabs, #geneticsactivities, #mendelian, #middleschoolscience, #tpt
