Pompeii was an ancient city located near modern day Naples in Italy. In 79 AD mount Vesuvius erupted burying the city under 4 to 6 meters of ash. The blanket of ash largely preserved the city freezing it in time and offering a unique snapshot of the Roman lifestyle.
