Aka little Venice. Aveiro got its nickname, as you can imagine from having a canal and “gondolas”, the local name for them is moliceiro, traditionally used to harvest seaweed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ we were a bit skeptical that this little town would live up to its nickname but we were actually pleasantly surprised! The canal goes throughout the entire city and you can hop on and the moliceiro will take you where you need to go! Definitely worth a day trip if you’re staying in Porto for a little while.
By the Enchanting Seaside of Aveiro, Portugal - Travelsewhere
Aveiro, once a small fishing town, is now an emerging tourist destination for Portugal. Found south of Porto on Portugal's Atlantic coast, Aveiro is a petite port city sometimes known as the 'Venice of Portugal'. Relative to Porto and Lisbon, it is a much smaller scale city and imbued with a more laid-back atmosphere.
