It’s our imperfections that make us unique and beautiful, which is why the art of Kintsugi is so special. Kintsugi is an old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold, encouraging us to recognise that we must learn that there is beauty in the cracks. Artisans use a lacquer resin mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. The repairs are visible — yet somehow beautiful, it literally translates as "golden joinery" from Japanese.

White porcelain kintsugi plate entirely handmade. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. Each bowl and plate is carefully slab built in my studio, glazed in transparent inside, sanded smooth outside and fired twice at 1250°.
